Mia is an integrated pest and pollinator management (IPPM) specialist. She provides support for field staff and partners to implement agricultural practices that reduce risk of pesticides to bees and other beneficial invertebrates.
She received her PhD in entomology at Cornell University, where her research focused on the impact of land and pesticide use on wild bee communities in apple orchards. Mia continued to study human impacts on wild and managed bees as a postdoctoral fellow, professor, and consultant. Her appreciation for insects began in her childhood backyard, where they were easy to catch and observe. Insects continue to delight her with a sense of discovery and wonder. When Mia is not working, she prioritizes spending time with her family and enjoying nature, art, and good food.
