Blue Ridge Native Meadows at the Cullowhee Native Plant Conference – Cullowhee, NC
July 17th, 2019
8:30 AM – 5:00 PM
Western Carolina University
Join botanist Gary Kauffman with the National Forest in North Carolina, and Nancy Adamson, Senior Pollinator Conservation Specialist with the Xerces Society, for a day visiting grassland communities along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Grass communities host diverse wildflowers and pollinators. They are a vital part of Appalachian plant communities–in open balds or wetlands or in areas periodically disturbed with tree fall, mowing, or fire, and in shady understory communities. We will visit a variety of sites, learn some of the rare species that are common in the highlands and some common species you might see in other parts of the region, talk about how communities thrive over time, plus enjoy other magnificent flora, fauna, and geology of the Southern Appalachians.
