Petition seeking regulation of bumble bee movement (January 12, 2010)

Subject: Petition before the United States Department of Agriculture Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service

Date: January 12, 2010

Pursuant to the Right to Petition Government Clause contained within the Administrative Procedure Act, the Plant Protection Act, the Honeybee Act, the Animal Health Protection Act, the United States Department of Agriculture Reorganization Act, and the United States Department of Agricultures’ regulations, the undersigned submit this citizen petition for rulemaking requesting the Secretary take action to regulate the movement of bumble bees.

The continued shipment of bumble bee pollinators to areas outside of their native ranges poses a grave threat to the wild populations of closely related bumble bee species. Without better regulation, we are likely to continue to see catastrophic declines, and possibly extinctions, of bumble bee pollinators.
