On October 16, 2018, the Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation, Defenders of Wildlife, and the Center for Food Safety filed a petition with the California Fish and Game Commission to list four species of native bumble bees—western bumble bee (Bombus occidentalis), Franklin’s bumble bee (B. franklini), Crotch’s bumble bee (B. crotchii), and the Suckley cuckoo bumble bee (B. suckleyi)—as Endangered under California’s Endangered Species Act.
