Candace’s invertebrate expertise spans a variety of taxa across the western US and beyond, including butterflies, beetles, snails, freshwater mussels, and aquatic macroinvertebrates. She currently leads the Xerces Society’s firefly conservation work and serves as the regional coordinator for the IUCN Firefly Specialist Group in the US and Canada. She is an author on a number of scientific articles, IUCN Red List assessments, conservation guidelines, and reports, including State of the Fireflies of the US and Canada and State of the Butterflies in the United States. She’s also a coauthor on the book Gardening for Butterflies. Through her collaboration with land managers, researchers, and community scientists, she works to bridge the gap between applied research and on-the-ground conservation initiatives.
